    Owner/photographer/writer with Naturalight Photography (now Tony Rath Photography).
    Concentration on environmental and conservation issues.


    1989 to 1995
    Part time Consultant/Director of Programme For Belize Marine Division.
    Partial Project List
    • WWF-USA sponsored evaluation of Belize's marine critical habitats;
    • Compilation of existing marine information on Belize;
    • Ecological survey of Jamaica's first marine park at Montego Bay;
    • Development of marine rapid ecological assessments using satellite and aerial photography in southern section of Belize Barrier Reef;
    • Assist Government of Belize with design of Conservation and Environmental Data System.

    1979 to Present
    Part time consultant to Smithsonian Institution. Provide technical assistance to visiting researchers at the Carrie Bow Cay marine lab, including:
    • Underwater photography;
    • Specimen collection/identification;
    • Monitoring of long term experiments,
    • Design of experimental equipment;
    • Field assistance as needed.

    1985 to 1988
    Marine Biologist with Chambers Group Inc. Los Angeles, Ca. Managed, designed and implemented environmental impact studies for numerous projects on the West Coast of the United States. Partial client list:

    • Shell Oil Company;
    • Arco Oil Company;
    • NASA;

    1979 to 1985
    Captain/1st mate of 60' sailing vessel. During six years of sailing, navigated (celestial navigation only) over 25,000 miles in the Caribbean Sea, North Atlantic Ocean(to 62 degrees N), and the Mediterranean Sea, with Atlantic passages of 1800, 2200, and 2600 miles and ports of call in over 30 countries. Of the six years, approximately 2 years were spent cruising the Caribbean Islands.

    1978 to 1979
    Diver/Technician/Photographer for the Benthic Ecology Program and Marine Research Group at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Investigation included blue water ecosystems, blue water plankton, and the phenomena of marine snow. Designed and managed onboard experimental programs during two Atlantic crossings.

    1977 to 1978
    Custom Color Printer for "The Darkroom" color lab in San Diego, California.
